Project Description

ECI Contract awarded by West Sussex CC to replace the 1920’s life-expired pedestrian crossing of the Adur estuary. The town centre setting and environmentally sensitive location demanded extensive stakeholder consultation as the design developed through to the construction phase. This has resulted in a landmark design meeting the Council’s requirements including for a moveable span for occasional passage of vessels in the navigation. Construction under the combined urban and maritime constraints was achieved successfully using significant engineering ingenuity and a design which recognized those constraints. The resulting structure achieves a fine statement of the aspirations of the community and provides a much-improved facility for pedestrians and cyclists
