Bridges at Stations
Cass Hayward has been heavily involved in the design of bridges at stations and also in the design of temporary works for bridges and structures constructed in this heavily constrained environment. We have had a variety of roles in developments in many major UK stations not least as British Rail’s designer for the track support structures for Waterloo International Terminal. We were heavily involved supporting the Contractor for the upgrading works at Blackfriars, assisted with deck erection design at London Bridge and performed design checks for the bridge/deck launches over the tracks at Reading Station and East Croydon.
Our award-winning design for the Paddington Bridge Project enabled a 3500 tonne bridge launch to be undertaken over 15 electrified Network Rail and LUL tracks without abnormal possessions. New under-line bridges were designed recently to allow platform extensions at Balham Station and to upgrade the underpass roofs at Three Bridges and Barry Island. We regularly design footbridges at stations and recent projects include Thatcham Station and glazed walkways and footways for the upgrading works at Manor Park in East London.
