Vertical Lift and Retractable Bridges
Cass Hayward’s projects include some of the less common types of movable bridge. At Cardiff Docks a new retractable bridge was constructed to create a new access for the barrage construction over the entrance to Queen Alexandra Dock. Keadby Rail Bridge near Scunthorpe steelworks was refurbished and a new translating deck installed to our design and comprises a rectangular rolling unit crossed by twin tracks on a heavily skewed alignment. We have also investigated the condition and strength of Barry Docks roller bridge.
Our design for Centenary Bridge, Salford created a vertical lifting bridge to carry the M602 over the Manchester Ship Canal and was a value engineered solution replacing original proposals for a swing bridge. We have adapted this design for the new Port Salford Canal Crossing which has additional width to accommodate trams for the Manchester Metro.
